Corey Mason
코리 메이슨의 작업은 라스코와 쇼베의 고대 동굴 벽화 속 표현으로 거슬러 올라가며 메소아메리카 토착 예술, 모더니즘의 시각적 요소 등을 접목하여 특정한 시간에서 벗어난다. 조경학과 농업개발학을 공부한 메이슨은 특히 자연과 관련하여 형태, 색감, 텍스처를 바라보는 자신만의 시선을 구축하였다. 작품 표면의 평평함과 표현의 단순함을 강조하는 작가는 시공간 밖 원시의 안개 속에 자유롭게 떠다니는 형상들을 그린다.
Corey Mason’s paintings are decidedly elemental, harkening back to ancient cave paintings of Lascaux and Chauvet, with references to Mesoamerican indigenous art and Modernism that further eludes the specificity of time. Mason, who studied landscape architecture and agricultural development, developed his own ways in seeing form, shape, colour and texture, especially in relation to nature. Emphasizing flatness and simplicity in representation, Mason creates figures that freely float in a primordial haze outside of space and time.
