Wonkun Jun
Color is the “fundamental element” of Wonkun Jun’s art, as the artist explained in an exhibition in 2006. He describes his painting as amanifestation of his sensitivity and the reflection of his emotions with the help of the “physical properties of paint and brush.” For Jun, “paint” and “brush” are humanistic elements and not industrial materials. For him, color is this independent element that allows him to reveal the emotions emanating from a situation. By repeatedly applying light acrylic paints to a canvas primed in several layers, he manages to bring out this harmony that, for the artist, emanates from the colors. Jun’s paintings are for him like “a handwritten letter, my desire to fill them with my own colors and symbols, conveying
sweet and comforting words.”
