Working from her studio in Devon, England, overlooking the sea, Catherine Anholt has been producing numerous paintings and drawings since well before receiving her Master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in 1985. Drawing from the visual diary she has kept diligently since childhood, she creates dreamlike imagery reminiscent of Rousseau or Matisse. Her paintings feature distinctive textures and line work that recall traditional and devotional art from across cultures. Through these formal elements, she pays homage to a broad range of visual traditions.

Over the past 30 years, she has also been active as an illustrator, having co-created more than 200 children’s books with her husband Laurence. Their shared passion for storytelling and creative expression has flourished in a home surrounded by a lush, jungle-like garden. Anchored in the themes of motherhood, family, and nature, Anholt’s paintings reflect her personal and artistic journey and offer a layered reflection on the ties that bind individuals, families, and communities.
