Sohyun Ban Korean, 1985

Sohyun Ban explores the moment when subtle emotional tremors are translated into painterly gestures. Her paintings emerge through intuitive and often impulsive acts driven by anxiety and instinct, leaving visible traces in the speed of the brush, the direction of movement, and the density of paint. From a distance, the compositions may appear lyrical and landscape-like, yet up close they dissolve into raw, colliding lines and restless marks that reveal the gap between perception and sensation. For Ban, painting is not a means of resolving emotions but a process that confronts and records their trembling presence.

반소현은 감정과 신체의 미세한 떨림이 회화적 제스처로 전이되는 순간을 탐구하는 작가이다. 그의 작업은 불안과 충동에서 비롯된 즉흥적인 행위를 통해 형성되며, 붓의 속도와 방향, 물감의 두께와 흔적이 화면 위에 그대로 남는다. 멀리서 보면 화면은 서정적인 풍경처럼 보이지만, 가까이 다가갈수록 거칠고 충돌하는 선과 드로잉이 드러나며 감각과 인식의 간극을 드러낸다. 반소현에게 회화는 감정을 치유하거나 정리하는 수단이 아니라, 그 떨림을 직시하고 기록하는 살아 있는 과정이다.
