A two-part traveling group exhibition featuring 11 artists from Germany and Korea – opening in Berlin in January, and in Seoul in November, 2022
In cooperation with the galleries CHOI&CHOI in Seoul and Bermel von Luxburg in Berlin, Kunstleben Berlin is continuing its „Berlin meets...“ series. Under the title “Menschsein / Being Human”, Kunstleben Berlin is presenting Berlin meets Seoul at Galerie Bermel von Luxburg from January 21 through March 19, 2022 under the curatorial direction of Dr. Rania Sid Otmane. The exhibition opens on 21 January, with an introduction by the NRW Global Business representative Soyeon Schröder-Kim, and Dr. Bongki Lee from the Department of Cultural Affairs at the Korean Embassy will be in attendance.
Berlin and Seoul - two fascinating metropolises and capitals with a vibrant art scene. Both cities have of their country’s history of division in common, one in the past and the other in effect to this day.
In November 2022, Berlin meets Seoul will travel to the Korean capital and will be presented at CHOI&CHOI Gallery, a contemporary art gallery that has steadily established itself over the past 10 years. The exhibitions are accompanied by a variety of engaging cultural programmes for the visitors to experience.
Kunstleben Berlin has been bringing people together from all over the world, showcasing art, artists, and galleries. The project started in 2009 with artists from New York and Berlin, who exhibited their works together in their cities in cooperation with local galleries. Back-to-back exhibitions are organized in two partner cities each year, and Berlin meets New York most recently held its 10th edition. Art knows no borders. After Berlin meets New York, Berlin meets Taipei was launched in 2020 despite the global pandemic, which allowed for a group exhibition of German artists to take place in Taiwan for the first time. With the support of the Federal Foreign Ministry, Kunstleben Berlin was able to give the Berlin- based artists the opportunity to present their art in Taiwan.

쿤스트레벤 베를린 (Kunstleben Berlin)이 주최 ‘베를린, 서울을 만나다’ (Berlin meets Seoul) 독일, 한국 작가 11인 그룹 순회전. (2022년 1월 독일, 11월 서울 개최) 쿤스트레벤 베를린 (Kunstleben Berlin)은 서울의 초이앤초이 갤러리와 베를린의 베르멜 폰 룩스부륵 (Bermel von Luxburg)갤러리와의 협업으로 “베를린, …를 만나다” 시리즈를 이어 나간다. 쿤스트레벤 베를린은 2022년 1월 21일부터 3월 19일까지 라니아 시드 오트마네 박사 (Dr. Rania Sid Otmane)의 기획 하에 베르멜 폰 룩스부륵 갤러리에서 “인간성”이라는 주제로 베를린, 서울을 만나다 Berlin meets Seoul를 주관한다. 이 전시에는 독일과 한국 출신의 예술가 11명이 참여하며1월 21일 전시 오프닝은 한국 문화원장 이봉기 박사의 참석과 함께 슈뢰더-김 소연(독일NRW주 경제개발공사 한국대표부 대표)이 참석하여 개막을 알릴 예정이다.
독일과 한국의 수도인 베를린과 서울은 현재 세계적으로 주목 받는 매력적인 대 도시이자 예술적인 에너지와 창작 활동으로 활기가 넘치는 예술의 중심 도시로 자리매김을 하고 있다. 특히 이 두 도시는 과거와 현재에도 여전히 존재하는 ‘분단’ 이라는 이슈를 안고 살아간다는 공통점을 지니고 있다.
이 전시는 올해 11월 한국의 서울로 순회하며 지난 10년간 명성을 쌓아온 갤러리인 초이앤초이에서 개최된다. 전시 기간에는 전시와 관련된 다양한 문화 프로그램이 함께 진행되며 관람객들에게 전시 외에 문화적 발견의 기회를 제공할 예정이다.
쿤스트레벤 베를린은 그동안 전세계 사람들을 대상으로 작가들의 창작 활동과 이들을 소개하는 갤러리들의 노력을 함께 홍보해왔다. 2009년에 뉴욕과 베를린의 예술가들이 각자의 도시에서 함께 전시를 하는 것으로 순회 전시 프로젝트를 시작하였으며, 매년 두 국가가 교대로 전시를 개최하는 것으로 이어져오고 있다. Berlin meets New York은 현재까지 10회 개최되었고 이후 Berlin meets Taipei은 팬데믹 상황에도 불구하고 2020년에 처음 개최되었다. 이 전시는 독일 연방 정부 외무부의 지원으로 이루어졌다.
